Fashion Collab for Change
Fall 2023
Taught By: Emily Huggard
Section: A

CRN: 16012

Credits: 3

This course explores fashion brand collaboration from both theoretical and practice-based perspectives by considering the creative, functional, and symbolic benefits that collaboration provides brands and their communities. Through the mixture of readings, class discussions, and field work, we will examine cross-brand collaborations and inter-industry projects that bring together brands and individuals from within and outside of fashion. Students will be asked to consider the mechanisms of fashion collaboration, what constitutes equitable and impactful pairings, and the motivating factors behind these collaborative endeavors. Our coursework will also investigate the potential for strategic partnerships—and the sharing of resources—between organizations to foster activism, drive innovation, and support sustainability, equity, inclusion, and social justice across the fashion industry. For their final project, students will develop an integrated strategy for a fashion brand collaboration that includes creative design development and the production of creative assets
