Couture Design: Draping
Spring 2024
Taught By: Patricia Henry-Turner
Section: A

CRN: 11922

Credits: 3

This course explores the sculptural process of draping and allows students to rethink preconceived notions of how a garment is constructed. Through historical research of couture garments, material experimentation, architectural analysis, deconstruction and the integration of foundational techniques, students will learn how to create new foundations to shape garments. Students are encouraged to develop their own methodologies that go beyond basic draping and drafting techniques. The aims are to rethink traditional shapes, seam-lines, finishing and silhouettes, and to develop unexpected, transformative ideas that can build the foundation for future concepts, garments and collections.

Open to: BFA and AAS Fashion Design majors only. Pre-requisites: PUFD 2241 Creative Technical Studio 2 or PAFD 1110 Technical Studio.
