Parsons School of Design: School of Fashion
CRN: 14966
Credits: 3
In this course, students will learn to use the industry-standard fashion design software CLO 3D for design development, while presenting new curatorial practices and creative expressions of self and community. This course will use digital strategies to eliminate and effectively reduce waste and the overconsumption of materials in the design and making process. This course also integrates new technology to make fashion more accessible, diverse, and accommodating to different body types, specific needs, genders and sizes. This software allows designers to work with a lot of ideas before investing in material, time, and labor, cutting down on over-sampling and consumption of materials, labor, and the financial burden associated with making pieces physically. Throughout the course, students will gain proficiency in CLO 3D software, encompassing fundamental aspects such as pattern creation, pattern editing, virtual sewing, integration of hardware and trims, utilization of 3D texture maps, rendering, and animation. This educational endeavor will also empower students with a cutting edge approach to design development and decision-making through immersive engagement with real-time 3D simulations.
