This course brings together hands-on studio projects and seminars to provide an overview of design management; the industry’s scope, research methods and strategy, design process, and implementation. It introduces students to the intersecting domains of design, marketing, management, and social sciences, all fundamental to the Design and Management program. The course exposes students to the enormous variety of ways that design functions in business contexts, and helps them understand the roles designers play in creative industries through critical readings and discussions, case studies, and practice-based projects. Students undertake a variety of immersive exercises to develop their research, prototyping, experimentation, self-reflection, and decision-making abilities, becoming resourceful practitioners and creative entrepreneurs.
