SS2: Sponsored by Macy's, Co-Designing Accessible Fashion is a special section on disability fashion design for the Spring 2026 semester. Specialized Studio 2 expands on Design Studio courses and Specialized Studio 1, and gives the student the opportunity to build additional pathway-specific skills and techniques within 2D/3D executions. Students will have the opportunity to continue their pathways and further articulate their visions through 2D/3D processes, emphasizing innovation and personalization of technique. Students will continue integrating 3D software technology such as CLO 3D, and if applicable, other previously-learned 3D software, into design processes and final development. Specialized Studio 2 works collaboratively with Design Studio 4.

This course immerses students in creating innovative fashion designs that are accessible to a broader audience. Students will take an approach of participatory design with disabled models, collaboratively developing garments, wearables, and accessories that enhance the wearer's experience. Through an understanding of contemporary disability scholarship, critical thinking, research, co-design, and iterative development, students will create work that serves broader populations, including people with disabilities. By integrating accessible design strategies and expanding the meaning of access into their creative process, students will help reduce barriers that make clothing inaccessible and innovate through fashion.
