Spring 2019

Taught By: Anne Finkelstein

Section: A01

CRN: 2434

Credits: 3

In this course, we will use traditional drawing and digital imaging methods to explore the conceptual, aesthetic and formal qualities that inform how ideas and impressions are expressed on a two-dimensional plane. We will explore visual organization, representational and abstract forms and engagement through observational drawing, photography, digital image creation, and the integration of a variety of media. The tools and methods acquired in this course form an introductory platform for students to build upon in their upper level disciplinary courses. This section will focus on language and we will address the following questions by using concrete elements of design and observational drawing to explore and develop a visual language: How is meaning constructed and communicated through visual images? What can signs and symbols convey?

Open to: Parsons First Year students, and others, space provided.

Fall 2018

Taught By: Daina Mattis

Section: A08

CRN: 3112

Fall 2018

Taught By: Tom Mc Glynn

Section: A06

CRN: 2851

This section will focus on people, looking to explore the singular and the collective through the lenses of communities, tribes, nations, and cultures. We will work through the following and related questions: How do our bodies define us? What is a relational body? Can it be a neutral symbol? When is it a loaded message? How is meaning constructed and communicated through visual images? What can signs and symbols convey?

Open to: Parsons First Year students, and others, space provided.
