In this hands-on studio elective, students learn the fundamentals of video production, including shooting, editing, and storytelling, using a collection of lo-fi digital camcorders. Working across a series of short projects, students will explore portraiture, observation, and place, using New York City as their primary shooting ground. Alongside production work, students will be introduced to a short selection of video art and moving image practices that embrace low fidelity as an aesthetic and conceptual choice. Editing takes place in Adobe Premiere Pro. No prior experience with video or cameras is required or expected. This elective is designed for students across all disciplines. The ability to shoot, edit, and construct a moving image story is a foundational skill that travels across design, art, fashion, architecture, and beyond. By the end of the semester, students will understand how limitation, imperfection, and low fidelity can be creative and conceptual strengths rather than obstacles.
