Unfathomable Futures
Fall 2022
Taught By: Nadia Williams
Section: A

CRN: 13331

Credits: 3

For generations, communities of color have used art and design as tools to create unfathomable futures in the face of systemic oppression. Artists and designers of color have made huge societal contributions by insisting on defining their creative practice on their own terms, despite statistics that demonstrate creatives of color are largely misrepresented, underrecognized and undercompensated. Within this context, in this three-credit elective, we will explore historic and contemporary examples of art and design as tools for racial equity, racial justice and freedom. Through an analysis of power and privilege within an intersectional framework, students will deepen their understanding of their own power to work towards equity, access and justice as artists and designers.
