Pre-Requisite: PUIL 2116 A Core Studio 4D. Co-requisite(s): PUIL 3135 Core Seminar 3D. In this six-hour studio course, students will be introduced to the technical skills needed to realize a variety of 3D-based Illustration projects launched in the co-requisite Core Seminar 3D. They will explore the technical possibilities of image, object and text storytelling through a wide range of 3D materials manipulated using traditional hand tools as well as laser cutting, 3D printing and other fabrication techniques. In-class exercises will explore the technical questions relating to toy design, paper sculpture, textile and needle arts, the book as object, surface decoration, toy-theater and puppet performances and illustrated environments. Emphasis will be placed on creating work geared for reproduction and distribution.
