Core Lab 1 is a two-part intensive course that provides an immersion into digital imaging and motion, and elements of visual style as they apply across multiple genres of image making. Taken in tandem with Core Studio 3, students gain a foundation in the digital post-production of still photography, video and sound. This course introduces students to both the technical and creative aspects of professional digital editing softwares, focusing on still images and sequencing in the first 7 weeks and moving towards video editing in the latter half, including concepts of continuity and pacing, time and duration. This course will have elements of both synchronous and asynchronous learning and bridged assignments across the two classes. Through software demonstrations, assignments, screenings, and readings, students strengthen their skills in digital post-production while further developing their artistic vision and broadening their approach to image-making.
