In this course, you will deepen your digital photography practice by developing a personal visual language and refining both technical and conceptual skills. Emphasis is placed on mastering lighting—both in-studio and on location—while cultivating a nuanced understanding of how light shapes meaning and mood in an image. You will explore techniques used across visual art, commercial, fashion, still life, and other photographic genres, building a versatile and idea-driven approach to image-making. The course integrates technical instruction with critical dialogue, research, and an exploration of historical and contemporary practices. Through weekly assignments, lectures, and critiques, you will expand your creative and critical capacities. This studio course runs in tandem with Core Lab 2.

Open to: Bachelors degree in Photography majors only. Pre-requisite: PUPH 2100 Core Studio 1; Co-requisite: PUPH 2111 Core Lab 2: Photo Practices.
