Core Studio 3: Moving Image
Parsons School of Design: School of Art, Media, and Tech
CRN: 14143
Credits: 3
Core Studio 3 builds on students’ technical skills, hones creative vision, and engages professional practices. It is an intensive immersion in digital motion, introducing digital video and sound production, and elements of visual style as they apply across multiple genres. Students explore the language and theory of photography as it informs moving image practices, applying critical thinking and technical skills to define their own visual approach. Emphasis is placed on conceptual development and creative strategies through technical demonstrations, hands-on work, screenings, and short and long-term assignments intended to strengthen the students’ awareness of contemporary methods of video production, while further developing their artistic vision. Students gain a critical perspective through classroom discussion and presentations, in addition to self and peer-to-peer evaluation. Lectures, readings, writing assignments, gallery, museum and commercial studio visits provide additional context for the students’ work and help define their ongoing practice. This course runs in tandem with Core Seminar 3.
