Core Studio 3 is an introductory course that builds upon students' technical skills and refines their creative vision while also engaging them in professional practices. The course focuses on digital motion and introduces students to digital video production and editing, sound editing, and visual style across multiple genres. Students examine the language and theory of photography in the context of moving image practices, using critical thinking and technical skills to develop their own unique visual approach. The course emphasizes conceptual development and creative strategies through hands-on work, technical demonstrations, screenings, short and long-term assignments, and classroom discussions. Students also gain a critical perspective through self and peer-to-peer evaluation, as well as through lectures, readings, and visits to galleries, museums, and commercial studios. Overall, Core Studio 3 is designed to help students develop their artistic vision and awareness of contemporary methods of video production, while preparing them for ongoing practice in the field.

Open to: Bachelors degree in Photography majors, sophomores only. Pre-requisite: PUPH 2100 Core Studio 1: Photo Practices. Co-requisite: PUPH 3101 Core Lab 3: Photo Contexts.
