Core Seminar 3 is an introductory course that provides students with the opportunity to develop their moving image practice in relation to their area(s) of interest while gaining critical perspectives on concepts and theories through expanded approaches, research, discussion, and peer-to-peer critique. Through lectures, readings, writing assignments, and field visits, students will gain professional, theoretical, and historical context to their evolving practice. The course aims to expand and refine the language, theory, and approach to moving images, while applying advanced critical, technical, and practical skills in defining their own work being created in Core Studio 3. Students will engage in screenings, presentations, response papers, field visits to commercial and fine art professionals, and working throughout the semester on individual, long term projects. The final project will include an oral, written, and visual presentation of the final work. Overall, the course is designed to increase students' awareness, knowledge, and confidence in relating to contemporary concepts of moving image through screenings, readings, discussions, presentations, and writing assignments while developing their skills, research, and dialogue around moving image practice.
