In the fall semester, the IPA and Dialects class is designed to help foster clear enunciation and projection on stage, as well as to lay a foundation for understanding dialects through the prism of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Class work will focus on learning the phonetic system, introducing the dialect of “General American”, and adapting to a phonetic understanding of sound changes for use in dialects. The last third of the semester will be spent learning the UK dialects of RP (Received pronunciation) and MLE (Multicultural London English)
