Intermediate Acting: Shakespeare 1
College of Performing Arts: Drama
CRN: 11718
Credits: 2
Students develop technical and imaginative skills through an intensive exploration into language and structure in support of performing Shakespeare's works. Students examine the relationship between verse and prose, meter and rhythm, and the architecture of iambic pentameter as tools for uncovering character, intention, and action. Emphasis is placed on scansion, antithesis, and imagery while voice, breath, and movement are integrated throughout to support the demands of classical speech. Through monologues, scene study, and a final performance project, students demonstrate the ability to perform Shakespearean material with clarity, specificity, and embodied presence, bridging classical technique with contemporary acting practice.
