This course introduces students to trans narratives in the fields of theatre and performance art in the 20th and 21st centuries. This course will specifically focus on trans narratives created by TGNC2S+ people in the US. Students will read and watch plays and performances written and performed by TGNC2S+ people, and to engage in thoughtful discourse about the ever-changing field of theatre. Coursework will include critical written engagement with texts as well as creative responses to the texts. Dramatic texts will include The Methuen Drama Book of Trans Plays as well as works by Taylor Mac, Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi, Kit Yan and more.
