This course offers a framework for creating and developing a sustainable creative career. We will explore the intersection between art and entrepreneurship, demystifying and examining our relationship to the entrepreneurial skills that can be of great service to developing artistic careers. We will engage with various topics relating to your career as an artist, including visioning, goal-setting and strategic planning, mindset and well-being, life/work balance, habits, time management, marketing and communication, networking, and professional communication. Knowing that many of you will be exploring a variety of professional disciplines throughout your training, the course material offers malleable approaches, tools, and strategies that can be applied to various iterations of your creative identity at differing stages of your development. You will be invited to approach your career from a position of leadership, learning how to place your energy and attention on the aspects of your career that are within your control, and cultivating structure, constancy, and support to ground you in the often erratic and unpredictable nature of freelance careers in the arts. Every aspect of this career-focused course is designed to empower you to create, develop, and sustain your art. We will challenge ourselves to disrupt the starving artist model by cultivating creative thinking and collaboration around developing sustainability and longevity in an artistic career. Moving beyond the industry’s often limiting and narrow standards for success, you will be asked to explore your own definitions of what it means to thrive as an artist.
