Taught By: Cotter Christian
Section: A

CRN: 18156

Credits: 3

In this course we will explore the relationship between performance and space. Through a series of readings, lectures, site visits, and interactive projects, students will explore how place occurs through the action of performance. Conversely, students will address the built environment as not only a background for action to occur, but as a performer itself. Students will engage in interdisciplinary explorations of performance and space in the roles of characters, designers, directors, and audience. Students will also explore the fundamental relationships between spectacle, the fiction of theatre, suspension of disbelief, and the space that allows these experiences to occur.
