As performers what is our instrument: The physical body. The apparatus that holds us up. That instrument is fueled by our breath. Literally. This course will explore the relationship of breath to your body. Then how that connection fuels voice and movement, which in turn lead to performance. You will spend time exploring your breath through various techniques, including meditation practices and full body breath and vocal work to access a wider range of movement, awaken vocal and sensory receptivity and deepen listening and responding through the body and voice. You will then start to connect that work to movement practices grounded in a specific non-western tradition that explores the body's relationship to space, rhythm and music. Then you will start to explore how breath and movement are vehicles for storytelling, and how we can connect our bodies and breath in service of performance.
