Space II
School of Drama: Theatrical Practices
CRN: 11756
Credits: 1
The Expanded Space course aims to integrate, consolidate and move beyond the learning obtained in Space 1, to explore performance as a spatial art that moves beyond the boundaries of the stage and occupies a particular social and public space. The course examines practices that foreground their relationship to space, such as participatory and site-specific theatre, as well as public art, street art, and festival traditions. The Expanded Space focuses on work that places a special emphasis on activism, social justice and community engagement. Theoretical and practical exploration of these approaches will support the development and performance of the Elevator Project, which takes notions of civic engagement, site-responsivity, and audience participation as its main parameters.
