In this playwriting class, students will gain a deeper understanding of characterization, character relationship, conflict, structure, dialogue, theme, theatricality, and more. Students will read and discuss essential works of contemporary theater, workshop each others’ plays, and practice giving each other kind but rigorous feedback. Through a series of in-class writing exercises and take-home assignments, each student will begin work on the first draft of a new full-length play.
