Intermediate Acting 2
College of Performing Arts: Drama
CRN: 18171
Credits: 2
This course builds on the foundations of Intermediate Acting I, extending and testing the possibilities of text through sustained embodied rehearsal practice, close text analysis, and character process sheets. Having developed the skill of bringing themselves to the page, students now widen their lens to include older texts — playwrights such as Odets, Ibsen, and Wilson — whose worlds demand greater scale, precision, facility with language, and imaginative capacity from the actor. Through rigorous rehearsal and critical feedback, students refine their work scene by scene, learning to read the writer’s clues and embody lives shaped by times and manners unlike our own, yet moved by pressures still knowable today. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have expanded their range, developing the technical and imaginative facility to meet the demands of heightened, period, and stylized text.
