* Enrollment in this course is limited to participants in the Impact Entrepreneurship Graduate Fellowship, with preference given to those entering The New School in Fall 2020. This studio and seminar provides students from various master’s degree programs participating in The New School’s Impact Entrepreneurship Fellowship an opportunity to develop or expand ideas intended to address pressing social or environmental challenges, so they are prepared to launch a financially-sustainable venture. Incorporating elements of discovery, ideation, prototyping, and user testing, the course takes students through an equity and design-driven process aimed at clarifying the unmet need they have identified, better understanding their target industry, developing a social impact theory of change, validating their assumptions, and considering different approaches to scaling. Venture concepts may take the form of products and services, program strategies, or systems structured within new or existing organizations (both nonprofit or for-profit). This course counts towards the Graduate Minor in Impact Entrepreneurship.
