CRN: 19381
Credits: 4
This course analyzes the urban experience through the lens of cinema- covering themes like industrialization, social change, gentrification, access and exclusion, belonging, and the everyday experiences of navigating city life. Using film as the primary medium to explore these themes, we will delve into the narratives of urban life that are upheld through popular cinema. In addition to watching films from directors such as Win Wenders, Spike Lee, Wong Kar-wai, and Fritz Lang, we will read film criticism, watch interviews, and engage in our own multimedia projects to explore themes of urban life through visual artifacts. No previous academic engagement with film theory is necessary to take this course.
