Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Global, Urban, & Environmental
CRN: 19382
Credits: 4
Students interested in working with grassroots nonprofits and social movements, as well as City government, can get direct, hands-on experience addressing and promoting political, public, and civic participation in this course, part of a New York City and New School collaboration to build grassroots organization and community non-profit capacity in neighborhoods that are historically underserved. The class will combine skill instruction (in budgeting, grant proposal writing, donor and other stakeholder reporting, media production) and a partnership with a New York City non-profit organization that includes several weeks of on-site work. Students will also have the opportunity to join optional capacity-building workshops for the non-profits at The New School on Friday mornings throughout the semester.
