Writing for Doctoral Studies is a one-semester seminar course that focuses on techniques of academic writing and guides students in the creation of a writing sample for submission with applications to DMA and PhD programs in music. . During the course, students will learn to write effectively about music, create and refine research questions, and perform research on topics of their choice in music history or analysis. In addition to helping students create a writing sample, this course will prepare students to give successful presentations about their work in music, write grant applications for research projects, craft personal statements, and improve communication skills for interviews. This course fulfills the Graduate Seminar requirement for MM students.
