This course is a foundational exploration of Socially Engaged Artistry. Invested in artistry as contingent on personal exploration and contextual awareness, this course asks students to look inwards to reveal empathy, compassion, humanity, self-expression, personal history, and love for their art. The course examines ways to access and develop tools for engaging oneself and others through one's art, and ways to look beyond traditional performance spaces as outlets for creative expression. Students will also explore what it means to be a fully present and aware artist with a lens on social justice, inclusion, equity and introspection. Socially Engaged Artistry is one of four CoPA Core Courses, along with Improvisation & Collaboration, Technology & Experimentation, and The Whole Human Artist, required of all undergraduate students at the College of Performing Arts

Please note that this course uses seat reservations by program, so it may appear that seats are available when all seats held for your program may be full. If you encounter registration difficulties please contact copaacademics@newschool.edu
