Taught By: Miranda Rosa Fiammetta Tuckett
Section: A

CRN: 17315

Credits: 4

This course will give students an overview of the history of anthropology, including major schools within and beyond the Anglo-American tradition and topics that have remained contentious since the beginnings of the discipline, from culture, nature, race, and gender and sexuality to power, value, technology, and human-machine relations. Students will read “classical” texts alongside recent publications and non-textual media that address similar topics in order to discuss the limits and possibilities of anthropology as a form of critical and creative inquiry today. The course will also introduce students to anthropology’s methodological toolbox. Different forms of research, such as ethnographic fieldwork, will enable them to design and implement a project of their choice.
