This course applies fundamental reporting techniques and the essentials of crafting meaningful narratives to produce compelling short-form video pieces. Students will explore storytelling for different media from standard television broadcast journalism, to digital and social media video. Students will learn how to develop story ideas into solid pitches, compose strong sequences and scenes, conduct well-framed interviews, gather sound, write to picture, discuss the practical ethical and legal considerations of working in video to edit video projects effectively. Students should be familiar with basic editing software (Adobe Premiere) and have some experience shooting video. This course satisfies the Form elective for J+D.
