In this course, students will iteratively prototype an email newsletter. Newsletters have become a popular means for individuals and small organizations to publish, distribute, and sell their journalism, and many larger news organizations put out newsletters to inform, engage, and retain readers. After an initial period of audience research, students will follow weekly prompts that guide them through aspects of the newsletter publishing process, from structuring information to finding images to experimenting with different forms of writing, Students will go through a weekly peer review and revision process in small groups. Students will study a variety of newsletters, and publishers will visit the class to talk about their newsletters. This class fulfills the Form elective for the Journalism + Design major.
