Latin American Nobel Prize Winners in Literature: This course studies the works of the Nobel Prize Winners in Literature from Latin America: Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral, Guatemalan novelist Miguel Ángel Asturias, Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez, Mexican poet Octavio Paz, and Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa. In addition to reading works by these authors, the course attempts to provide the Latin American contexts within which they wrote and, in particular, the international cultural and political realities that, in addition to their intrinsic quality, help explain their consecration by the Swedish Academy.

This course fulfills the Poetry requirement for the Literature concentration.
