Social Conflict and Resolution
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Psychology
CRN: 15509
Credits: 4
Using a social identity perspective, this course is designed to expand students’ understanding of what motivates conflict and offer solutions to mitigate conflict. Using theoretical and empirical evidence from psychology and political science along with historical examples of conflict and conflict resolution, students will leave the course with a better understanding of the social psychological motivations for group conflict along with a deeper understanding of how conflict can be solved in the real world. Students will role-play how different solutions might work on individual, group, and institutional levels. At the end of the course, students are expected to take one example of a conflict of interest and examine that conflict using the perspective of different key actors and offer solutions based on these various perspectives.*Prerequisite: One Lang fundamentals course, or ULEC 2160, Introduction to Psychology with a grade C or higher.
