[Post-Production]: James Joyce's Ulysses and the Art of Editing
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Culture & Media
CRN: 18194
Credits: 4
In this class, we will read and analyze James Joyce’s Ulysses as well as collaborate on the editing of a sprawling work-in-progress adaptation of the novel by the instructor. In other words, this is simultaneously a literature class and an advanced editing class. Each student will be responsible for editing down several hours of documentary footage into concise and carefully crafted segments commensurate not only with the content of Joyce’s novel but also with his formal innovations. NOTE: Prior experience editing in Adobe Premiere is required. Upon successful completion of the class, students will receive assistant editor credit on the film. It is strongly recommended that students complete both Editing and Cinematography (taken spring 2025 or prior) or Screen Foundations (taken fall 2025 or later) or have demonstrably commensurate experience prior to registering for this course.
