Students will study and train in the World Class Voice production method, Freeing the Natural Voice by Kristin Linklater and practice the best elements of well-spoken English with the book, Classically Speaking, by Patricia Fletcher. The objective is for students to develop the facility to embody language with a balanced quartet of intellect, emotion, voice, and body. The course will culminate in how the voice work parlays into articulate, clear, and embodied speaking with a final speech written and presented, a live online assignment and a filmed or taped River Story: an autobiographical exercise at the end of the semester. The content will also include a rigorous response to finesse communication skills presented by the radical separation of our physical selves from being together in public spaces to currently communicating through laptops, smart phones, and other small screens. The students will examine the new demands of Online interacting within a professional setting and the vocal and physical presence needed to become an articulate speaker with facility and expertise with Online platforms.
