Credits: 4
Move, speak, and create new work in this course on the Suzuki Method and Viewpoints, two complementary training methods for actors, directors, dancers, and choreographers. Developed by Tadashi Suzuki and the SCOT Company, the Suzuki Method of Actor Training prepares the actor’s body, breath, and voice for the challenges of performing onstage. Originally articulated by Mary Overlie and later adapted by SITI Company and Anne Bogart, the Viewpoints teach performers to collaborate fearlessly using the tools of time and space. Professor Paradis Hanley, an associate artist at SITI Company, offers modifications and individual instruction to help make these forms accessible for each artist. All students enrolled in this course should be ready to challenge their bodies and minds, to encounter new ideas, and to work intensively within an ensemble. This course fulfills an elective requirement for Theater majors and minors.
