Students will explore topics such as French hip hop, street art, media, fashion, sports, food, and advertising from the early twentieth century to today. We will examine the status of popular culture vs. high culture through songs, films, newspaper articles, and short readings by French thinkers such as Barthes, Bourdieu, and De Certeau. Students will further expand their speaking and writing skills through class discussions, as well as analytical and creative writing activities. High Intermediate to Advanced proficiency required.
