Radical Memoir: Intensive
Schools of Public Engagement: Creative Writing
CRN: 14410
Credits: 3
In this writing workshop we look to autobiographical texts that defy the boundaries of genre for our inspiration. Memoirist, diarist, theorist, philosopher: the authors we consider perform the ongoing project of the construction of the self, or successive versions of self, through the creation of multi-genre autobiographical texts. They create narrative forms true to the fragmented, shifting composition of memory and thought. Students write a series of creative assignments responding to these texts and create a hybrid-memoir project of their own.
