Playwriting & Screenwriting
Fall 2024
Taught By: Robert Montgomery
Section: A

CRN: 17203

Credits: 3

An introduction to the basics of playwriting and screenwriting. Writers in this course practice essential elements of script writing such as story, character, dialogue, conflict, scene construction, and overall plotting. We also engage with more nuanced considerations of this kind of writing such as drama as metaphor and the realities of production. Together we consider what writing for the stage and and the screen have in common as well as how the two forms differ. The course is geared to the theatrical or media experience of each individual student and is designed to support students as they build a writing practice, an openness to personal exploration, and the capacity to polish 20 pages of an original script.
