Industry Communication will focus on the collaborative relationship between industry studio communication and industry production communication. Students will build upon skills learnt in Design Communication, ranging from conceptual to technical design communicated through digital techniques, utilizing CLO 3D software. You will create effective and compelling design and technical presentations reflective of your evolving design identity, learning technical skills that will allow you to engage with this exciting platform to be able to realize your designs in digital 3D. We will examine how creative digital and analog visualization techniques constantly evolve the fashion creation process influencing contemporary visual design. Through the CLO 3D software students will explore materiality, surface design, construction, illustration, and design functionality in context of fashion communication. Students will utilize both Adobe Creative Cloud apps and fashion industry software. This course will also emphasize flat illustration and introduce garment specification as it relates to line building, measurement points, sample making and production. Symbols and garment iconography will be surveyed to communicate design intent beyond verbal communication. Class will include in depth exploration, technique demonstrations, project reviews, and lecture and discussion of societal influences reimaging fashion design and its communication. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to creatively communicate and present their fashion design concepts with the use of digital tools in tandem with meeting today and future global fashion systems and technical practices. Note: PAFD 1200 Core 2, PAFD 1500 Specialized Studio, and PAFD 1510 Industry Communication must all be completed before progressing to PAFD 2100 Core 3 and PAFD 2000 Professional Practices & Portfolio.

Open to: Associate degree in Fashion Design majors only. Pre-requisite(s): PAFD 1000 Design Communication, PAFD 1010 Textiles & Materials, PAFD 1100 Core 1, and PAFD 1110 Technical Studio. Co-requisite(s): PAFD 1500 Specialized Studio.
