From culture to commerce, expectations for the built environment to connect, provoke, and inspire us are thriving. People want more than anything to feel as though they’ve had an original experience. Emotive architecture is on the rise. This course focuses on the process of designing interiors with interactive technologies, lighting design and digital media to create semi-permanent, responsive environments. First-hand experience will include a study of place as a story that sparks engagement, virtual experience as it relates to the design plan, and interactive design as the integration of the physical with the digital. The work of visionary designers such as teamLab, Es Devlin, Black Egg, and United Visual Artists will be considered, alongside a hands-on design project of an interactive exhibit or interior. Students will be given the skills to evaluate new technology as they are applied to interior, event and installation design.

Open to: All university undergraduate degree students. Pre-requisite(s): PUFY 1020 Space/Materiality or PAID 1030 Drawing Interiors 1: 2D.
