Fashion Materiality
Parsons School of Design: School of Fashion
CRN: 9208
Credits: 3
This course offers students an opportunity to explore fashion materiality using materials, textiles, and embellishments in a variety of techniques, processes, and manipulations – such as embroidery, quilting, pleating, and heat – while incorporating an awareness of the concepts of sustainability, adornment, texture, and the use of negative and positive space in their designs. Technical explorations and material manipulations will be encouraged; such as employing traditional solutions to deal with contemporary issues such as design endurance; creating new fabrication solutions; and using blended technology. Students will be encouraged to explore a range of design and technical processes in order to come up with creative material solutions that can be resolved as 3D fashion products or as original and innovative 2D fabrications.
