In the first term of this two-semester course, students are required to demonstrate an awareness of prominent issues in their chosen fields and to develop a rigorous design research process identifying opportunities for creative intervention. What does it mean to be healthy in today’s market? Can a new definition of wellness be translated into unforeseen market opportunities with the future consumers? In collaboration with an industry partner, the faculty and students will investigate how the notion of health and wellness manifests in market and social behavior as we look at fluctuations and new approaches regarding F&B consumption in a new generation of consumers. Students are required to demonstrate an awareness of prominent issues in the research topics of the class and to develop a rigorous design research process identifying opportunities for creative intervention. This course draws upon and tests competencies developed in previous courses, as students employ and refine their skills of research, analysis, explanation, persuasion, and presentation across multiple media. A series of milestone deliverables from this class will be positioned for further design, development and implementation strategies to be carried out in the future semesters. The application is due on Wednesday, September 4th. This course can serve as a substitution for Senior Project 1. In order to register for this course, the program leadership approval is required. How do diversity and body positivity play a role in today’s market? As a new generation of consumer embraces diverse standards of beauty and seeks authenticity, changing notions of body inclusivity are impacting the business landscape in new and exciting ways. In collaboration with an industry partner, students and faculty will explore how the rise of body inclusivity creates both challenges and opportunities for players in the fashion and beauty spaces.
