Can we reimagine the future of learning? One that is affordable, accessible, socially just, anti-racist, equitable, and sustainable? The Future of Learning is a project that is developing educational alternatives that explore the radical possibilities and potentials of creativity-based learning in the 21st century as part of UNESCO’s Futures Literacy Summit. Students will work on a semester-long project in teams and use design-led research and info-visualization methods to develop a deep understanding of the complex and interconnected systems around learning, teaching, and education. Students will identify opportunities for creative intervention as well as learn Futuring approaches that they will apply in imagining new possibilities of economic and business models/platforms, credentialing and accreditation, and organizational structures. This course draws upon and leverages competencies developed in previous classes, as students employ and refine their skills of research, analysis, documentation, explanation, reflection, and presentation across multiple media. As part of the class, students will also engage and participate in the Design Dialogues, a new virtual series where guests will engage and catalyze provocative discussion, and attend the Digitally Engaged Learning Conference 2020 that is fully online and hosted by Parsons School of Design. Course registration is by application only so please fill out this Google Form to be considered. This course can serve as a substitution for Senior Project 1 or 2. In order to register for this course, program leadership approval is required.
