Core Studio 4
Parsons School of Design: School of Art, Media, and Tech
CRN: 2836
Credits: 3
Core Studio 4 is structured to prepare you for the thesis year by emphasizing research, iterative creation, and the honing of technical skills. Throughout each inflected section, you will craft a project statement, deliver a panel presentation, and undertake a self-directed, long-term project, gaining valuable insights through self-evaluation and peer-to-peer assessment. In combination with the curriculum in Core Seminar 4, you will build a strong research-based creative practice. In this section, we will explore historical and contemporary approaches to photography through a research-focused lens. You will be introduced to a range of strategies for working with the still image, from the traditional photograph, to books, to installations. Drawing on readings, screenings, field trips, and discussions you will examine how artists have engaged with photography across fine art, documentary, and commercial practices. From this foundation, you will develop your own research methods and creative vision for your self-directed project.
