This course open to all intermediate students in the playwriting track will focus on the elements of playwriting: character, conflict, action, theatricality and story with an emphasis on structure and technique. Students will not only start a brand new play in this course but will dually learn how to begin the kind of storytelling that will sustain to the end of a play. We will also read and discuss variant masterpieces to discover what inspiration and knowledge we can draw from them, to put in practice the complex craft of playwriting that is being studied in this class throughout the semester.
