Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential tools for analyzing the spatial dimensions of urban issues such as health, equity, urbanization, and climate change. As geospatial technologies continue to advance, GIS is widely applied in research, planning, and policy across government, business, and civic sectors. This course introduces the concepts, methods, and practices of spatial analysis in urban studies. Students will build skills in spatial data, analysis, and cartographic representation while engaging with real-world content related to environmental planning and social justice. Hands-on projects emphasize both technical proficiency and critical approaches to mapping, preparing students to responsibly interpret and create spatial representations that inform urban inquiry and decision-making.
