Audio theater is experiencing a renaissance in the podcasting environment, which reflects its roots in both traditional radio and contemporary theatre. In this interdisciplinary course, students will explore the history, social impact, and aesthetics of audio theatre, and will create original dramatic works that intersect with the theme of climate justice. Students will learn practical skills, such as writing for the ear, voice performance, and working with sound design. In the second half of the semester, students will create short original works of their own, addressing significant climate justice themes. These will be featured on the university’s virtual radio station, WNSR, New School Radio. The course will also feature guest speakers from the audio production and playwriting communities and will also include climate activists. [Tracks C, M]
