This course focuses on the major writings and ideas of Martinican literary critic, novelist, poet, and philosopher, Edouard Glissant (1928 – 2011). In addition to exploring books by Glissant such as, for example, Caribbean Discourse: Selected Essays, Faulkner, Mississippi, and Poetics of Relation, we will also closely consider works by other Francophone scholars (e.g., Aimé Césaire, Manthia Diawara, Patrick Chamoiseau, and Frantz Fanon), as well as American writers (e.g., William Faulkner, and Richard Wright) throughout the semester.
