Course Description: In this combined graduate/undergraduate course, challenges of advanced professional food writing are explored as students hone skills of writing and submitting inquiry letters, newspaper articles, magazine stories, restaurant reviews, recipes, and op-ed pieces, as well as book and cookbook proposals. We cover in-depth research, interviewing, networking, writing, and posting techniques in social media, such as blogs, Facebook, TikTok, Substack, YouTube, etc., that can help writers succeed in a rapidly changing field. Students may choose to develop and submit a piece to the Inquisitive Reader as one course assignment. Good writing skills are required. Students who have already taken the undergraduate “Professional Food Writing” course may enroll, but this is not a prerequisite.
