In this Photo Concepts course, we explore narrative strategies as a prevalent aspect of photography. We will examine how sequence, series, grid, linear and nonlinear approaches, and literary models are utilized in relationship to the structure of the subject. Through class discussions and presentations, we analyze the historical context of picture magazines, text and image books, and socially engaged practices, as well as key critical texts that shape contemporary readings of photographic narratives. Assignments will encourage you to investigate narrative strategies in your own creative practice.
