In this course, you will be introduced to methods of seeing as you explore the fundamentals of photography. You will learn analog camera techniques and darkroom printing as you develop your technical and creative skills. You will be encouraged to embrace risk as you respond to conceptual and aesthetic challenges, exploring the possibilities of the medium, and refining your craft. The historical and contemporary function of still imagery is introduced as you begin to produce and visualize your work in a broader context. You will also develop research strategies and critical dialogue relating to creative and cultural practices in the field. Weekly photography assignments, discussions, writing exercises, lectures, field trips and critiques further the your understanding of picture-making possibilities in all areas of photography. This studio course runs in tandem with Core Lab 1.

Open to: Bachelors degree in Photography majors only. Pre-requisite: PUFY 1030 or APFY 1030 Drawing/Imaging and PUFY 1040 Time or APFY 1040. Co-requisite: PUPH 2101 Core Lab 1: Photo Practices.
